After Andhra Pradesh was divided into Telangana and the remaining portion, on April 27, 2016, it was formally founded. It was first established in 1932 under the Hyderabad State as the Nizam State Rail & Road Transport Department (NSR-RTD), with a small fleet of 27 vehicles. It has expanded dramatically over the years, and as of April 2022, following its split, it operated as a distinct organization with a fleet of 9,384 buses and more than 46,000 personnel.
With 68% of its buses devoted to rural transportation, it provides daily service to millions of passengers throughout Telangana and its adjacent states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Chhattisgarh. It manages 11 regions with 364 bus stations throughout the state, operating out of 98 depots.
